Meet Takenya: A Journey from Performer to Public Speaker

Public Speaking Coach with a Musical Twist

I’m Takenya, and if you grew up like me, you know that when grown folks were talking, children were to be silent. We were told to be “seen and not heard.”

As a child, my parents threw the best parties—the kind where the bass thumped so hard you couldn’t ignore it, even from the next room. You’d hear the grown folks laughing, feeling themselves, and just having a good time. And even though I wasn’t allowed in the room, I could feel the energy through the walls. That music? It made people move. It made them feel something real.

I’d sit back, taking it all in—the rhythm, the flow, but most importantly, the way the music transformed the vibe. That’s what sparked my curiosity. I wanted to create that feeling too. So, I dove into piano lessons, and when I started playing and singing, something magical happened—people noticed. I was no longer just that kid sitting on the sidelines. I had found my voice, and people were listening.

That’s when I internalized: your voice has the power to shift the energy in any room. Whether you’re playing music or speaking your truth, the way you use your voice can make people stop, listen, and feel.

And now, I’m on a mission to help leaders and professionals like you find that same power—to tune your voice to the frequency of freedom and make a lasting impact every time you step up to speak.

How I Help You Own the Room

Here’s the thing: public speaking and being a musician? They’re not so different. Whether I’m performing music or speaking, it’s all about connecting deeply with people, shifting the energy of the room, and making them feel something. And as a classically trained vocalist and pianist, a still-gigging musician, and a military veteran—who’s fired weapons powerful enough to blow holes in armored tanks—I bring a unique, badass take on what it means to be a powerful public speaker.

Not everyone can say their coach has done that.

  • Know Your Audience: Like a musician reading the crowd, great speakers adapt their message to fit the room. You have to know who you’re speaking to and how to make sure your words land.

  • Master Pacing and Rhythm: Every great performance—whether a song or a speech—has rhythm. You’ve got to know when to push the energy, when to slow it down, and when to pause for effect. This is how you keep people engaged.

  • Prepare and Practice: Musicians practice until the song flows naturally. Speakers do the same with their message. Mastery comes from preparation—it’s what frees you to connect with the audience in real-time.

  • Connect with Your Audience: Music moves people by hitting them in the head and the heart. Public speaking is no different. The goal isn’t just to share information—it’s to make people feel something they won’t forget.

  • Own the Stage: Just like musicians command attention on stage, speakers need to own the space. Your voice, body language, and presence should all say, “I’m here, and I have something worth listening to.

You don’t need to be a musician to master these principles. What you need is the confidence, clarity, and charisma of a performer—and the unapologetic energy of someone who knows how to own every room they step into. That’s where I come in. I use my experience as a classically trained musician, a military veteran who’s blown holes in armored tanks, and a performer to help you tune your voice to the frequency of freedom. By learning how to harness these skills, you’ll show up with authenticity, power, and presence—whether you’re addressing a packed conference, a boardroom, or your team.

Because when you master these skills, you’re not just speaking—you’re performing. You’re creating moments that move people, just like a great song. And when you do that, you’re not just heard—you’re remembered.
